My Training Methods
There are probably as many ways to train a dog as there are dog trainers. My basic tenet is REPETITION and PRAISE. The dog is asked to do a certain behavior. He carries out the behavior and gets praised for doing so. If he doesn’t do it, he is shown how to do it and then gets praised. A “good dog”, accompanied with a pat or two for obeying a command, works very well, is always available and forms a positive connection between you and your dog.

Dogs are basically pack animals, but each dog is not on an equal level. There is a leader in the pack structure. In your pack (family), you are the leader. The dog is at the bottom of the pack which isn’t such a bad place to be – you always treat him with love and consistency and provide him with food and shelter. In return, the dog will want to repay your leadership by doing what you ask of him.

Training
Obedience Classes
My group obedience classes are available in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Incline Village, South Lake Tahoe, Stateline and Gardnerville. Each class is one hour per week for six weeks. The cost is $75-$82 per session, depending on the location of the class.

Requirements: All dogs must be at least 4 months of age to participate in the obedience classes and must be fully inoculated.

Private Training
I offer private training sessions to help with specific problems. The cost for this will vary, depending on the driving distance.

Inboard Training
Inboard training takes between 6 and 12 weeks. Contact me for rates.

Requirements: I ask that you attend a group obedience class either prior to or during the training period (the cost of this class is included in the fee for inboard training). This gives you the knowledge and understanding of how the dog is being trained so that you can continue with the same consistency when the dog returns home. It also gives you a chance to interact with your dog on a weekly basis during the
training period.
